In his 1972 classic, A Religious History of the American People, Sidney Ahlstrom, the noted church historian from Yale University, placed Seymour at the head of the list of American black religious leaders when he said Seymour’s black piety “exerted it’s greatest on American religious history.” Seymour and Parham could well be called the “cofounders” of world Pentecostalism.
